Concern raised over election materials

JAKARTA: The Government Watch (Gowa) on Wednesday warned of a delay in the polls due to the poor performance of the General Elections Commission (KPU).

Gowa coordinator Farid Faqih said during a meeting with House Commission II for law and home affairs that he doubted the KPU could manage to distribute all the materials for the more than 560,000 polling stations on time.

One key issue is the 2 million ballot boxes required, which are reportedly way behind production schedules.

Farid added that the KPU still had not made a decision on which company would now handle the production of the ballot papers.

Responding to the concern, commission chairman Teras Narang said that the legislators had been supervising the work of the KPU in its preparation.

He said the commission would continuously consult both the government and KPU officials. -- JP
