Concern over environment needed

The problems associated with waste disposal in Indonesia, with
over 200 million people, are clearly enormous. The government
should give serious thought to the waste issue in order to find
the best possible solutions.
For instance, household waste could be processed into
fertilizer, with TV stations airing free public information ads
on organic and inorganic waste. Waste treatment should be a
priority of both the central and local governments.
Floods in Jakarta and other major cities are mainly due to the
disappearance of water catchment areas. Governors should
therefore ensure that such areas be set aside in the grounds of
large residences and corporate buildings.
Meanwhile, the police also need to take action against motor
vehicles that emit excessive fumes. We must always remember that
Indonesia still could, in fact, be a healthy country to live in.
