Concern over education
Concern over education
From Kompas
The situation of education in Indonesia gives reason for
concern. Some alternative schools offer various programs and
facilities, including luxury buildings and car pick-up service.
Conversely, lots of children have to study in dilapidated school
buildings and wear old clothes without shoes, particularly in
remote regions.
In fact, students of alternative schools that apply
international methods, who are few in number, and students of
ordinary schools, who constitute a majority, have the same right
to an appropriate education.
The question arises as to whether only a small group of
wealthier children can be prepared to face the challenges of
globalization, while the great number of poorer students have
uncertain prospects.
Let us hope that schools adopting foreign systems of education
can create Indonesian citizens of good morality who are concerned
about the less favorable conditions of most of their peers.
