Computer System Sabotage Suspect Extradited from Vietnam to China

A primary suspect in a major case involving the sabotage of computer information systems has been extradited from Vietnam to China, following a joint cross-border law enforcement operation, China’s Ministry of Public Security announced on Monday (20/7). The suspect, identified by the surname Pan, is accused of leading criminal activities that used phishing websites to trick users into downloading malware-laced software, enabling the perpetrators to take over victims’ computers, steal personal information, and gain illegal profits. The case was uncovered by police in eastern China’s Shandong Province in July 2025. Authorities subsequently dismantled several criminal groups linked to the operation through a series of coordinated crackdowns, while Pan fled abroad in August 2025. Vietnamese police arrested Pan on 4 June this year with support from Chinese police and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, whilst Chinese police also apprehended 11 other suspects in Guangdong and Guangxi, according to the ministry. Pan was subsequently extradited to China on 6 June by a Chinese police task force. The ministry stated that this case highlights China’s determination to hunt down fugitives and pledged to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation to combat cybercrime.
