Computer System Sabotage Suspect Extradited from Vietnam to China

Beijing (ANTARA) - A key suspect in a major case involving the sabotage of computer information systems has been repatriated from Vietnam to China, following a joint cross-border law enforcement operation, China’s Ministry of Public Security said on Monday (20 July).

The suspect, identified by the surname Pan, is accused of leading criminal activities that used phishing websites to trick users into downloading software containing malware, allowing the perpetrators to take control of victims’ computers, steal personal information, and obtain illegal profits.

The case was uncovered by police in Shandong Province, eastern China, in July 2025. Authorities subsequently dismantled a number of criminal groups linked to the operation through a series of coordinated crackdowns, whilst Pan fled abroad in August 2025.

Vietnamese police arrested Pan on 4 June this year with support from Chinese police and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, whilst Chinese police also arrested 11 other suspects in Guangdong and Guangxi, according to the ministry. Pan was subsequently repatriated to China on 6 June by a Chinese police task force.

The ministry said the case highlighted China’s determination to hunt down fugitives, and pledged to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation to combat cybercrime.
