Computer Olympiad underway in Bogor

BOGOR: High school students across the country have gathered in Bogor regency for the Indonesia Computer Olympiad held at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB).

The 38 students have been receiving modules on computer programming from Monday, a process that will continue for two weeks.

"People think of the IPB as concerned with farming. Actually the institute also focuses on mechanics, technology, mathematics, statistics and computer studies," said rector Ahmad Ansori Mattjik while opening the Olympiad on Monday.

He added that the participants were selected from 100 schools across the country. The best 16 students, Mattjik said, would be automatically admitted to the IPB without testing after graduation. -- JP
