JAKARTA (JP): The University of Indonesia will inaugurate the
operation of an integrated computer network today to help improve
the information system at its campuses in Depok, to the south of
here, and Salemba, Central Jakarta.

Tjiptaningsih Hadisuryo, a spokesperson for the university,
said on Saturday that the installation of the campus computer
network, billed to be the first in Indonesia, is designed mainly
to support the University of Indonesia's determination to become
a research university.

"The network is also expected to improve the management of the
information system in the University of Indonesia's campuses,"
she said.

On the national level, the facility will speed up the exchange
of information in sciences and technology, she added. (hhr)
