Computer games blamed for attack
SINGAPORE (AFP): An "under-socialized" Singapore teenager
obsessed with violent computer games has been placed on probation
for a series of attacks on his family's maid, it was reported on
Wednesday.
The boy, who hit the 26-year-old Indonesian maid with a chair
and a belt and also bit her breast, blamed his behavior on the
violent computer games, the Straits Times said.
Each time he assaulted the maid, the teenager would return to
play the games.
The teenager, who as a juvenile cannot be named, was sentenced
to 36 months probation and ordered to do 240 hours of social
service work.
His 43-year-old mother signed a S$10,000 (US$5,780) bond and
will contribute S$200 a month for her son's stay in a hostel for
a year as part of the punishment, the report said.
