Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has decided not to increase electricity tariffs for the second quarter period or April-June 2026.

This policy provides certainty for the public in facing the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah period.

Acting Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno, stated that this policy was taken as an effort by the government to maintain public purchasing power, especially amid rising needs during Ramadan and Eid.

Tri conveyed that the decision not to raise electricity tariffs refers to applicable provisions and considers the economic conditions of the public.

β€œThe public need not worry, as the government has set the electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 to remain the same. This determination is made to safeguard public purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr, following calculations of various macroeconomic parameters. The government also urges the public to use electricity efficiently and wisely as part of collective efforts to support national energy resilience,” Tri explained, quoted from an official statement on Thursday (19/3/2026).

In accordance with Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024 on Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), the evaluation of electricity tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidised customer groups is conducted every three months based on changes in realised macroeconomic parameters, including the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Coal Reference Price (HBA).

For the determination of tariffs in the second quarter of 2026, the macroeconomic parameters used are realisations from the period November 2025 to January 2026, namely an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US$, ICP of US$62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22%, and HBA of US$70 per tonne in line with the domestic market obligation (DMO) coal policy.

Based on calculations of these parameters, the electricity tariff formula potentially indicates changes. However, to maintain industrial competitiveness, public purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global conditions, the government has decided that electricity tariffs will not change. The same applies to the 25 subsidised customer groups, which will also see no changes.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources encourages PT PLN (Persero) to continue ensuring the reliability of electricity supply, improving service quality to customers, and optimising operational efficiency to guarantee reliable and sustainable electricity provision.
