Javanese people do not only use the Gregorian calendar daily, but also the Islamic Javanese calendar created by Sultan Agung. This is because the calendar contains information regarding pasaran, weton, and neptu, which are needed as a guide for life. Weton is the day of birth, a combination of a regular day and a pasaran day. Regular days are the seven-day cycle, such as Monday and Tuesday. Meanwhile, pasaran is a Javanese cycle consisting of five days: Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage, and Kliwon. An example of a weton is Friday Kliwon or Monday Pahing. In Javanese culture, weton can be used to predict various matters, such as wedding dates, romantic compatibility, and the timing for moving house. In the process, the use of weton is closely related to neptu, or the numerical value of the Javanese calendar day. Neptu is the value assigned to Javanese time units, including regular days, pasaran days, months, and years.
