Complainant States Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry Has Been Detained in Egypt
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The complainant in the alleged sexual harassment case involving suspect Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry alias SAM, Mahdi Alatas, stated that SAM is currently being held by Egyptian authorities. According to Mahdi, the detention occurred shortly after the alleged sexual harassment case came to public attention in Indonesia. “There (in Egypt) he has already been detained. Ahmad Misry was detained starting from 23 April. So, the first time I spoke up was on 22 April, and on the 23rd he was detained,” said Mahdi at the Bareskrim Polri building in Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026). Mahdi said that after being released for one day, Ahmad Al Misry was detained again on 27 April 2026. According to Mahdi, the detention is related to the case report currently being processed in Indonesia. “It is related to the report in Indonesia,” said Mahdi. He explained that Ahmad Al Misry’s communications are also said to be restricted during the detention process. In addition, Mahdi stated that Ahmad Al Misry’s status has now entered the wanted persons list (DPO) after three failures to appear for summonses as a suspect. “Already DPO, already three summonses as a suspect, but he skipped them,” he said. Previously reported, the Set NCB Interpol Indonesia of the Polri International Relations Division has applied for the issuance of a red notice against Ahmad Al Misry, who is now in Egypt. “It is in the process of applying for the red notice through the Interpol portal,” said Ricky to reporters on Friday (8/5/2026). In addition, the Polri International Relations Division is still coordinating with Egyptian authorities to confirm SAM’s citizenship status. “We are also communicating with Egyptian authorities to validate his citizenship status,” he said.
