Comparison of Rp25 million motorcycles: Emotor Sprinto vs Honda Vario 125
JAKARTA - The competition in the Rp25 million motorcycle segment has become increasingly interesting with the arrival of urban electric motorcycles. Two models frequently considered by consumers are the Indomobil Emotor Sprinto and the market-dominating conventional scooter, the Honda Vario 125. Consumer considerations have now shifted from mere design or features towards a battle of rationality. On one side, electric motorcycles offer pure energy cost efficiency. In pure numerical terms, electric motorcycles deliver operational cost efficiency that is hard to match by internal combustion engine (ICE) models. Based on my testing data on a daily commuter route across regions (Bogor–Petukangan–Kompas Tower) spanning 62 kilometres, the Sprinto proved its efficiency. With a 2.45 kWh battery capacity, this 3.5 kW electric motorcycle consumes a total of 1.44 kWh per trip. At the current non-subsidised PLN tariff for 1,300 VA and above (Rp1,444.70 per kWh), the electricity cost per trip amounts to just Rp2,089. How about its rival? The manufacturer claims the scooter’s fuel consumption can reach 51.7 km per litre. However, my real-world testing on dynamic Jakarta city roads using a full-to-full method recorded 46.6 km per litre. At the current Pertamax fuel price of Rp12,300 per litre, the petrol cost for a 62-kilometre journey is Rp16,368. Mathematically, in terms of daily energy expenditure, the Sprinto is almost eight times cheaper.
