Comparison of BYD Atto 1 vs Jaecoo J5: The Two Best-Selling BEVs in February 2026
Jakarta — Indonesia’s electric vehicle market intensified in early 2026. According to wholesale data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo), total distribution of electric vehicles from factories to dealers in February 2026 reached 12,272 units.
Amid this surge, BYD Atto 1 emerged as the star performer with distribution reaching 3,700 units, far ahead of its nearest rival. However, equally attention-grabbing was Jaecoo J5, which secured second position with 2,926 units despite being a newcomer to the market.
Regarding pricing, the gap between the two models is considerable. BYD Atto 1 stands as one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market, priced from approximately Rp 199 million to Rp 235 million, depending on variant. Meanwhile, Jaecoo J5 operates in a higher market segment, ranging from approximately Rp 249 million to Rp 299 million. This price differential is a significant factor driving Atto 1’s market popularity.
In terms of performance, both vehicles offer distinct characteristics. Jaecoo J5 delivers substantially greater performance, with output reaching 155 kW or approximately 210 horsepower and torque of 288 Nm, providing more responsive acceleration across various road conditions.
Concerning battery capacity and driving range, Jaecoo J5 maintains its advantage. The electric SUV is equipped with a battery of approximately 60.9 kWh capacity with a driving range of up to 460 km (NEDC). By contrast, BYD Atto 1 uses a battery with capacity ranging from 30–38 kWh, with a driving range in the region of 300–380 km (NEDC).
