PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) continues to enhance community quality of life through sustainability programmes with wide-reaching impacts. This effort is demonstrated through support for organic waste management education for the managers of Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) throughout Wonogiri Regency, Central Java.

The activity took place at MPP Nyawiji, Wonogiri, on Thursday, 23 July 2026. According to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) of Wonogiri Regency, there are over 24,000 SPPGs operating to reach the community. Due to the operational activities of these SPPGs, significant amounts of organic waste are generated. If not managed properly, these activities could contribute to uncontrollable waste accumulation.

“We need to minimise all aspects of risk arising from the MBG (Free Nutritious Meal) programme,” explained the Regional Secretary of Wonogiri, FX Pranata.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Environmental, Housing, and Settlement Area Office of Wonogiri Regency, Bahari, encouraged SPPGs to manage waste generation. Waste generation refers to the amount of waste produced by human and natural activities, measured in weight or volume per unit of time. “We encourage SPPGs to manage the waste they produce. This waste can be processed and utilised to become more valuable,” said Bahari.

Representing Kalbe, Corporate Sustainability Assistant Manager SFD, Arie Wibowo, explained that organic waste from the food production activities of the MBG programme can be processed into various derivative products. This not only reduces unmanaged waste but also boosts the local economy. “Kalbe, together with residents, is developing an environmentally-based waste processing facility using maggots in Watuagung Village, Baturetno District. This facility has produced derivative products such as animal feed and fertiliser. We hope this serves as an idea for SPPG managers looking to manage their waste,” explained Arie.

Arie also invited participants to learn at Kalbe’s waste processing facility in Sendang Hamlet, Watuagung Village, Baturetno. Meanwhile, Kalbe’s Head of Corporate Sustainability, Abi Nisaka, described the programme as a practical example of waste management that benefits the community. “Kalbe’s contribution to the environment demonstrates our strong commitment to the environment for a better life,” stated Abi.
