Company, NGO team up to fix school
JAKARTA: Around 400 volunteers grouped in the GE Elfun and the Nurani Dunia Foundation teamed up to repair minor damage to 12 state elementary schools in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
The foundation chairman, Imam B. Prasodjo, said the work was a part of the effort to provide a better environment for students in which to study. "If we want to develop the country, we have to ensure that children have access to good education," he said.
The volunteers also helped adorn some of the walls in the school with murals, and lay out gardens and a basketball court.
Netta Sjafei of GE Elfun said her group would also cooperate with the Foundation for Excellence in Education to provide training to the teachers of state elementary schools 1, 9 and 11. --JP
