Company Defends Security Guard Who Reprimanded Alphard Driver for Running Red Light at Bundaran HI
The company has spoken out regarding the security guard who told off the driver of a Toyota Alphard for running a red light in the Bundaran HI area of Central Jakarta. The company defended the security officer, named Victor Harefa, because he was carrying out his duty to secure the project area.
“The company expresses its appreciation to the security officer who strove to carry out his duties in protecting public safety and ensuring order around the project area, while continuing to encourage professionalism and a human touch in the performance of his duties,” said the Project Manager of WIKA-RAU KSO via the Instagram account @ext.concoursemrtbhiwikarau on Friday (24/7).
WIKA-RAU KSO stated that Victor Harefa is one of the security officers assigned to the Extended Concourse Bundaran HI project area, deployed to support security operations at the project site.
The consortium emphasised that it prioritises professionalism, compliance with work procedures, and the safety and comfort of the public around the project area.
“The company will also ensure that every member of personnel who carries out their duties professionally receives protection in accordance with applicable regulations,” it said.
WIKA-RAU KSO added that it is committed to following up on every incident as part of an evaluation process to continuously improve safety, security and the quality of work execution in the project area.
“We urge all road users to always obey signs, road markings and traffic signals for the sake of collective safety,” it appealed.
Pramono: The Security Guard Was Doing His Job
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded in a similar vein. He defended the security guard, whom he considered to have been carrying out his security duties.
“It happens that I have watched the footage several times—the security guard stationed in front of the crossing near Pullman towards Grand Hyatt. And from the CCTV footage we possess, it is actually more complete than what went viral,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (24/7).
“First, regarding the guard’s fate, I will ask that he not be dismissed or terminated,” he added.
He said the security guard had in fact carried out his duties admirably. Meanwhile, the Alphard driver violated traffic regulations and was found not to be using genuine number plates.
“The person concerned was actually doing his job very well. It was clear that it was the Alphard that committed the violation. We then also received a report that the plates used by that car were fake plates,” he said.
Pramono called for law enforcement to impose sanctions on the Alphard driver. He warned that if the case is not resolved properly, the driver would feel above the law and would not feel any remorse for his actions.
“So once again, I ask that the security guard not be dismissed and continue to be employed as usual. Because it was this guard who was carrying out his duty, and everyone has seen it—from the viral CCTV as well as the more complete footage actually held by the Jakarta Provincial Government. We are also well aware of the angry face he made,” he added.
