Companion of the Prophet Known as Aminul Ummah, His Piety Led to the Revelation of QS Al-Mujadalah Verse 22
In the annals of Islamic history, there is the story of a trustworthy, wise and ascetic figure, namely Aminul Ummah (Trustee of the Ummah) named Abu Ubaidah Radhiyallahu’anhu.
Abu Nu’aim Al Ashfahani in Hilyatul Auliya explains that concerning this companion of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, a verse of the Qur’an was revealed. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala says:
“You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their kindred. Those are the ones upon whose hearts Allah has decreed faith and whom He has strengthened with a spirit from Him. He will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. Those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, it is the party of Allah who are the successful.” (QS Al-Mujadalah Verse 22)
It is narrated that Abu Ubaidah remained patient through a life of want until his journey to the hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Indeed, every nation has a trustee, and the trustee of this nation is Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah.” (HR Imam Bukhari)
