Commuters Resigned to Being Late for Work After Person Struck by KRL in Tebet
The Bogor–Jakarta Kota KRL line experienced delays this morning after a person was struck while near the railway tracks in Tebet. The incident caused a number of passengers to complain about being late for work.
One of them was Didik (33), a Depok resident who works in the Salemba area of Central Jakarta. He said he was late because the departure of the Bogor–Jakarta Kota KRL line was disrupted by the incident.
“I usually leave at 07.30. But I could only leave at 08.30. I mean, I could only get on the train, because it was already extremely crowded,” Didik said when met at Manggarai Station, South Jakarta, on Thursday (20/8/2026).
Didik admitted to feeling resigned and dizzy when he learned that the disruption to the Bogor–Jakarta Kota KRL was caused by a person being struck. Didik then immediately informed his workplace that he would be late.
“I felt dizzy too. Especially since I knew someone had been hit. So I just resigned myself to it, informed the office, what else can you do when it involves a life,” he said.
Didik was then allowed by his workplace to arrive late. He said his workplace already knew about the delayed KRL incident.
“Thank God, they had already seen on the monitor that the KRL was delayed, that it had hit someone,” he said.
Besides Didik, another resident named Fiki (29) was also affected by the delay on the Bogor–Jakarta Kota KRL line. Fiki, who usually takes the KRL from Universitas Pancasila (UP) Station, said he could only leave for his office in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta at around 09.00 WIB.
“I usually leave from UP around 8. I start work at 09.30. But earlier I could only leave at just before 9,” Fiki said when met at Manggarai Station.
Fiki admitted to feeling confused when he saw UP Station already crowded with passengers. He then felt resigned when he learned about the incident on the Bogor–Jakarta Kota line.
“I was immediately confused, mate. I said, ‘What’s going on here?’ It turned out someone had been hit. I just resigned myself at that point. Then I informed the office, and thankfully my supervisor allowed me to be late,” he said.
Fiki admitted he had considered taking another mode of transport such as an online motorcycle taxi or Transjakarta. However, he continued using the KRL because his supervisor allowed him to arrive late and also because it was more affordable.
“I did think about using an online motorcycle taxi or Transjakarta, mate, but I had already told my supervisor. He said it was fine if the train was delayed. It would be a waste to use an online motorcycle taxi, it’s expensive,” he said.
As previously reported, travel on the Bogor–Jakarta Kota KRL line was disrupted this morning. This was due to a resident being struck near Tebet Station.
“We apologise for the delay to the Bogor–Jakarta Kota Commuter Line in connection with train KA 1183 striking a person between Pasar Minggu and Manggarai stations at 06.35, at Km 12+7 near Tebet Station,” said KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda on Thursday (20/8).
The handling of the incident has now been completed. KRL trains can now pass on both tracks.
“The evacuation process for KA 1183 (Bogor–Jakarta Kota) following the incident of a person being struck has been completed, and further handling is being carried out at Manggarai Station,” KAI Commuter said via its official Threads account on Thursday (20/8).
“Currently, Commuter Line travel on the Bogor–Jakarta Kota round-trip route can be passed through on two tracks and is in the process of dispersing congestion on the line,” KCI continued.
