Commuter Train Passenger Stuck for 1.5 Hours at Duri Station, Unable to Join Child's Takbir Night
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Passenger Ikhsan (32) was unable to accompany his child for the Idul Adha 2026 takbir procession due to KRL Tangerang service disruptions on Tuesday (26 May 2026). He spent the takbir night stranded for 1.5 hours at Duri Station in West Jakarta. Exhaustion was evident on Ikhsan’s face as he sat waiting uncertainly in Duri Station’s hall area. ‘I’ve been here since around 9 PM WIB, transferring from Manggarai earlier, but the train hasn’t moved. I’m exhausted, so I might as well sit and wait until it’s quieter,’ Ikhsan told Kompas.com at the scene on Tuesday evening. The delayed KRL services forced Ikhsan to abandon his plan to accompany his child in the neighbourhood takbir celebrations. ‘I think I’ll just sleep now to have enough energy for Eid prayer tomorrow. I probably won’t leave until 11 PM,’ he added. He also noted the slow clearance of crowds due to trains consisting mostly of eight carriages. Moreover, the headway between trains remains irregular, worsening the congestion. ‘The platform below was extremely crowded; not everyone could board at once, so I went upstairs. The intervals between trains are too long,’ he said. Yuni (33) experienced similar issues, stranded for an hour after arriving at Duri Station from Tanah Abang at 9:30 PM WIB. She said she did not want her child to endure the crowded platform and long waits for trains. ‘I was coming from my in-laws’ house in Tanah Abang, heading to Cipondoh. Usually, I wait no longer than 30 minutes, but today’s overcrowded transit was too much,’ Yuni said, adding she chose to sit near a power socket to charge her phone. She ultimately decided to wait for her husband, who was due to finish work at 10 PM in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta.
