Commuter passengers stranded

JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of train commuters heading to Jakarta from Bekasi were stranded on Monday morning at railway stations along the Bekasi to Jakarta route due to electrical problems.

State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia spokesman Zainal Abidin told The Jakarta Post that electricity supplies from state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) had been cut from Sunday evening until Monday noon due to problems at PLN's electricity relay station in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

The relay station caught fire on Sunday evening.

As a result, three commuter trains carrying passengers from Bekasi to Jakarta failed to operate on Monday morning.

"By 8 a.m., we decided to stop all trains heading to Jakarta from East and Central Java and asked those diesel trains to transport the waiting passengers to Jakarta," he said.

The decision was taken because there were students who were required to travel to their schools to take their final examinations. (01)
