Commuter Line Ridership Falls 29 Per Cent Ahead of Eid 2026
KAI Commuter recorded 323,455 passengers on the Commuter Line serving Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) on Monday, 16 March 2026. Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Karina Amanda stated that this represented a 29 per cent decline compared with the previous Monday during normal operating conditions. “This decline is largely influenced by the work-from-anywhere policy ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday,” she said in a statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.
According to KAI data, passenger boarding at Jabodetabek Commuter Line stations included Bogor Station with over 22,000 passengers, Citayam Station with 18,385 passengers, Bekasi Station with 18,143 passengers, Tangerang Station with 10,175 passengers, and Sudimara Station with 10,282 passengers. These figures remained relatively high despite the overall decline.
During the 25-day Ramadan fasting period from 19 February to 15 March 2026, KAI recorded 24.2 million passengers on the Jabodetabek Commuter Line. Karina said that during the Eid 2026 transport period, KAI Commuter would operate 1,065 Commuter Line journeys in Jabodetabek and 70 Commuter Line journeys to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
For the Merak Commuter Line service, between 13 March and 20 March 2026, operations would be limited to Cilegon Station. “Passengers using the Merak Commuter Line destined for Krenceng Station and Merak Station will be provided with connecting transport from Cilegon Station,” Karina said.
KAI recorded passenger volumes on the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line and Merak Commuter Line during Ramadan this year at 162,393 and 252,501 passengers respectively. In Jakarta, average transit volumes at Manggarai Station during Ramadan reached 150,000 passengers, Tanah Abang Station reached 136,000 passengers, and Duri Station averaged 80,000 passengers daily.
Rangkasbitung Station, which integrates with the Merak Commuter Line, recorded 300,874 passengers alighting from the Jabodetabek Commuter Line. Meanwhile, Cikarang Station, which integrates with the Walahar Commuter Line serving Purwakarta, recorded 489,597 passengers alighting at that station.
Sudirman Station and Cawang Station, which integrate with the Jabodebek LRT, recorded 934,216 and 616,291 passengers alighting respectively.
“KAI Commuter urges all passengers to always comply with regulations during their journey, to supervise and look after children, to follow staff instructions, and to remain vigilant for the sake of collective safety,” said Karina Amanda.
