Commuter Line Reaches JIS: Easier Access to Stadium, Significant Impact on North Jakarta Residents
The presence of the KRL Commuter Line service, which is now directly connected to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area, is confirmed to ease public access and transform the mobility patterns of residents in North Jakarta.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that direct KRL access to JIS will ensure that the public no longer relies on private vehicles when travelling to the stadium area, particularly during matches or concerts that frequently trigger traffic congestion in the region. “Therefore, connectivity in Jakarta is becoming increasingly improved,” Pramono said in West Jakarta on Monday (18/05/2026).
With the KRL connected to JIS, the North Jakarta area is projected to become one of the new, more integrated mobility hubs. Access to the stadium, which has often been congested during large-scale events, is expected to become more organised.
Meanwhile, Pramono also confirmed that JIS Station will be officially inaugurated once the KRL service is fully capable of stopping directly within the stadium precinct. “KRL is already present at JIS, even stopping at JIS; I will officially inaugurate it in the coming weeks,” said Pramono. This plan is part of the effort to strengthen connectivity in the developing northern region of Jakarta.
From a regional development perspective, JIS is being prepared not only as a stadium but also as a centre for sport tourism and creative economic activities. Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno previously noted that JIS holds great potential to be developed following the model of world-class stadiums such as San Siro in Milan, Italy. “We are learning how a stadium can live as a space for history, business, and entertainment, and become a source of pride for citizens. JIS has great potential in that direction,” said Rano.
