Commuter Line Passengers in Greater Jakarta Surge in First Half of 2026
KAI Commuter recorded 181,612,800 passengers on its commuter line services in Jakarta and surrounding areas during the first half of 2026. President Director Purnomo Sidi said the figure represents a 7.02 per cent increase from 169,701,778 passengers in the same period of 2025. “This figure shows that the Commuter Line is increasingly trusted by the public for safe, affordable, and integrated travel,” he said in a written statement on Thursday, 9 July 2026.
According to KAI Commuter data, passengers on the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) Commuter Line totalled more than 178 million in the first half, a 6.95 per cent rise from 166.4 million in the same period last year. The Merak Commuter Line recorded 2.41 million passengers, up 9.4 per cent year-on-year. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line, known as Basoetta, served 1.19 million passengers, a 12.67 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025. “The Basoetta Commuter Line service is also often chosen as an alternative for people travelling to the city centre and for onward journeys with intermodal connections,” Purnomo Sidi said.
Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, said the first half of the year also saw the opening of new stations. These were Jatake Station on the Rangkasbitung line at the end of January and Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station on the Tanjung Priok line at the end of June. “This service opens up access for communities from residential areas and activity centres to use the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line,” she said.
Beyond general passenger services, KAI Commuter noted that the Farmer and Trader Train on the Rangkasbitung–Merak line served 26,074 people during the first half. Since its launch on 1 December 2025, the service has been used by 30,189 people from farming and trading communities.
