Commuter Line Passenger Subjected to Sexual Harassment on Jakarta-Nambo Route; Perpetrator Blacklisted
A woman became a victim of sexual harassment on a commuter line service on the Jakarta-Nambo route operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). KAI accompanied the victim in lodging a police report.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at 21:01 Western Indonesian Time on the Jakarta Kota-Nambo commuter line service. The victim boarded at Tebet station with Cibinong station as her destination on commuter line train No.1530 (Jakarta Kota-Nambo), whilst the alleged perpetrator boarded at Tanjung Barat station.
The incident went viral on social media. The victim experienced sexual harassment as the train approached Universitas Indonesia station. The perpetrator reportedly concealed his actions behind a backpack. KAI staff immediately apprehended the perpetrator.
“The alleged perpetrator committed sexual harassment inside the commuter line. The perpetrator was subsequently removed at Universitas Indonesia station by on-board staff following reports and assistance from other passengers,” stated KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan in a statement on Sunday, 15 March.
Staff coordinated with station personnel for follow-up action on the incident. The victim and alleged perpetrator were subsequently questioned regarding the chronology of events.
“We will register the alleged perpetrator into our CCTV analytics database, which can detect the facial features of alleged perpetrators committing criminal acts either at stations or on commuter lines. We will blacklist the perpetrator, who will no longer be able to use the commuter line,” Arlan stated.
Leza expressed concern at the frequency of such incidents occurring in close succession.
“KAI Commuter will not tolerate any form of sexual violence occurring either inside the Commuter Line or at stations,” Arlan emphasised.
KAI Commuter will provide psychological support to the victim in order to strengthen her. This service represents our commitment to ensuring the safety of all users. KAI Commuter will provide full assistance and stand with the victim in every instance of criminality in the commuter line environment, particularly actions that violate standards of decency.
“KAI Commuter urges all passengers to be aware of their surroundings when using the Commuter Line, to take action, to speak up, or to report any form of sexual violence to staff via the call centre on 021-121 or through KAI Commuter’s official social media channels,” Arlan concluded.
