Commuter Line Bag Thief Caught via CCTV Analytics
KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) officers have apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for stealing a passenger’s bag on a commuter train (KRL). KCI caught the suspect using their existing technological capabilities.
“After conducting a trace through CCTV Analytic recordings, officers were able to identify the suspect. Based on the investigation, the suspect’s characteristics, including the specific backpack, were entered into the CCTV analytic database,” explained Leza.
KCI personnel became aware of the suspected theft after receiving a report from a passenger and a loss report from the authorities. The theft occurred on the Bogor-Jakarta Kota Commuter Line No. 1153 on Tuesday (29/9) at 05:40 WIB.
A passenger reported the loss of a backpack that had been placed on the overhead luggage rack. The suspect was detected at Universitas Indonesia (UI) Station while attempting to board the Bogor-Jakarta Kota train.
KCI officers immediately coordinated to secure the suspect. Following intensive monitoring, the suspect was arrested at Tebet Station.
“The suspect was successfully detained as they were disembarking from the Commuter Line and attempting to exit Tebet Station,” Leerd added.
Suspect Examination Results
The suspect was taken to the Tebet Station security post for questioning. From the initial examination, the suspect admitted to taking the passenger’s bag, which contained a laptop, a mobile phone, a wallet, and identification cards.
“KAI Commuter officers then contacted the passenger who reported the loss to come to Tebet Station,” said Leza.
The suspect stated that the victim’s laptop was still at his residence, while the bag and wallet had been discarded. On Thursday (1/10) at 09:01 WIB, the passenger arrived at Tebet Station and met with the suspect.
Suspect Handed Over to Metro Jaya Police
After receiving an explanation from the officers, the victim stated they would pursue the matter through legal channels. KCI subsequently coordinated with the police, and the suspect has been handed over to the Metro Jaya Regional Police for further legal processing.
KAI Commuter is committed to maintaining the security and comfort of all Commuter Line users. Investigations via CCTV are among the efforts undertaken to follow up on reports from passengers regarding criminal incidents during journeys or at stations.
Leza also emphasised that KAI Commuter will continue to maximise its services and ensure that perpetrators of crimes in stations or on the Commuter Line are dealt with firmly.
“This serves as proof that KAI Commuter remains responsive and will certainly take action against anything that disturbs the security and comfort of users,” Leza added. “On the other hand, we also urge all Commuter Line users to always guard and supervise their belongings while at stations or on the Commuter Line.”
KCI also advises that if users experience or witness any incidents that disturb security and comfort or appear suspicious, they should immediately report them to the officers.
