Communist posters vex law enforcers

SEMARANG, Central Java: Authorities are investigating the
origin of posters emblazened with the communist symbol that are
circulating in several cities in the province.

Head of the Central Java public prosecutor's office Harry
Moerdjono said yesterday that anyone distributing the posters
carrying the hammer-and-sickle insignia would be dealt with.

"We have seized 135 posters of singers with a hammer-and-
sickle in the background at a stationery store in Kauman village,
Surakarta," Harry said.

According to the seller, none of the posters have been sold.

He said he was curious if the maker and distributors of the
posters had certain motives in circulating the 30 by 50
centimeter posters.

Hari said that the Surakarta poster seller could face criminal
charges if he was found selling the items with subversive intent.
