Communications Minister: WFH is Not an Additional Holiday, Must Not Disrupt Public Services

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid has emphasised that the implementation of work from home (WFH) every Friday must not reduce the quality and speed of public services to the community.

Meutya stressed that the WFH policy of one day per week is not an additional holiday.

“WFH is not an additional holiday. It must not reduce effectiveness, must not reduce productivity, and must not disrupt the speed of services from the ministry,” said Meutya during the morning assembly at the Ministry of Komdigi office in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026), as quoted from a written statement.

Meutya stated that changes in work patterns must be met with performance that remains measurable.

She also asked the Ministry of Komdigi to serve as an example in implementing flexible work patterns based on technology.

“We must actually become the main example that working remotely online can still provide maximum and measurable results,” said Meutya.

Meutya reminded of global challenges that demand the entire apparatus to remain disciplined and focused in working.

She also asked all Komdigi employees to maintain work rhythm and enhance collaboration.

“We must remain focused, calm, productive, and support each other. What the world is facing now is not easy,” she added.

“There must be no difference in spirit from the top to the bottom. If this happens, we will face difficulties,” she said.

The WFH policy was set by the government and has been implemented since 1 April 2026.

This policy is part of the government’s work culture transformation to improve efficiency and the utilisation of digital technology.

The government’s official announcement regarding the WFH policy for civil servants (ASN) held every Friday was previously announced by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga stated that Friday was chosen because work activities on that day are not like Monday to Thursday.

He mentioned that the four-day workweek policy had also been implemented in several ministries/institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We chose Friday because Friday is half a day, meaning not full like Monday to Thursday,” he said.
