Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, has urged the public not to spread hoaxes or sensitive content related to the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. Meutya stressed that the accident is a tragedy that should not be exploited irresponsibly, especially by disseminating unverified information. “This is a very heartbreaking tragedy, yes. For the victims’ families and all of us. So, we strongly urge that no one exploits such a tragic event. First of all, especially by spreading hoaxes or false news,” Meutya said after a press conference at the Komdigi Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Secondly, Meutya continued, avoid repeatedly sharing content related to the incident excessively, as it could cause psychological trauma to victims or their families. “Even if it’s not true, repeatedly sharing it could cause psychological trauma to the victims’ families or the victims themselves, as some victims are still being treated in hospital,” she emphasised. Regarding the possibility of censoring content showing victims, Meutya said her office is still holding internal discussions. However, she stressed that the main approach prioritises public awareness. “We are discussing with the Director General if there is anything we need to handle, we will handle it. But the spirit is that we want the public not to do that,” Meutya said. “We strongly urge that there is no need for special intervention from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs. This is all based on humanity to avoid excessive sharing, avoid sharing misinformation, and avoid actions that could have a negative impact on victims or their families,” she concluded.
