Jakarta (ANTARA) — Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid has urged mobile operators to improve their compliance with rules protecting unused internet data quotas.

Meutya said all mobile operators had introduced mechanisms to protect unused data, such as allowing unused quotas to roll over. However, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) considers the mechanisms currently in place not yet fully compliant with the rules.

“Compliance is around 50, 60 or 70 per cent among operators. They have taken steps, but have not yet fully complied,” Meutya said when met at the ministry’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She said Kemkomdigi had assessed how the policy was being implemented and had given operators time to adjust their unused-data protection services to meet government rules.

“Hopefully, in the next report, three months from now, mobile operators’ compliance will have improved,” she said.

At the end of August 2026, Meutya issued a circular to mobile operators on compliance with a Constitutional Court ruling concerning the protection of internet data quotas. The circular followed complaints from members of the public indicating that operators had not fully implemented the protections.

“That is why we issued a circular to operators and gave them until 28 September to report on their compliance,” Meutya said.

She hopes operators will meet the requirements and submit their compliance reports to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs by the deadline.
