Communications Minister: Amien Rais Video on Prabowo is Slander

Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid has affirmed that a video statement by Amien Rais, Chairman of the Ummat Party’s Shura Council, which implicates President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, contains a narrative of slander. In an approximately 8-minute video uploaded to his personal YouTube account, Amien claimed that Prabowo and Teddy have a relationship exceeding professional boundaries. As of Saturday morning, 2 May 2026, the video had disappeared from Amien Rais’s YouTube channel. In response to Amien’s upload, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) stated that the video’s content is a hoax and slander, and contains hate speech. “The narrative constructed is an effort to demean the dignity of the country’s highest leaders, lacks factual basis, and is part of a provocation to create public disturbance,” said Minister Meutya Hafid in a written statement on Friday, 1 May 2026. For Meutya, this has the potential to divide the nation. She emphasised that the digital democracy space is a forum for exchanging ideas, not for producing hate content that attacks anyone’s dignity. Meutya also assured that her ministry will take steps in accordance with applicable laws. Additionally, this Golkar Party politician warned the public not to spread Amien Rais’s content. “Anyone who creates, distributes, and/or transmits that video knowingly has committed a legal violation,” said Meutya. The legal violations in question are as stipulated in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law No. 1 of 2024, Article 27A and Article 28 (2). Meutya then invited the public to always maintain a healthy, productive, and safe digital space. “The government, together with all elements of society, is committed to promoting digital literacy and ensuring that freedom of expression goes hand in hand with responsibility,” said Meutya. Tempo has contacted Ansufri Idrus Sambo, Secretary of the Ummat Party’s Central Executive Board Shura Council, for explanation and response regarding the video made by Amien Rais. However, until this news was written, Sambo has not provided a response.
