Committee VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives highlights delays in completing several strategic industrial projects
The Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives has urged the government to accelerate the completion of several processing industry projects that are still underway so that their benefits to the national economy can be felt by the public soon.
The call was made during a public hearing with the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on the progress of the national downstreaming programme.
Yusman of the Golkar faction said the government needs to provide detailed explanations of the progress of unfinished projects so that the completion process can be monitored continually.
‘Well, as I see, of these 14 companies, five have already been completed. It might be helpful to provide a somewhat more detailed explanation of how much progress has been made toward completion,’ Yusman said.
He said that accelerating the completion of projects is important because the processing industry is believed to play a major role in creating new economic activity in various regions.
Similar remarks were made by PAN faction member Alfont, who urged the government to push ongoing projects to enter production as soon as possible.
‘How can we accelerate and push so that these smelters are finished, production can commence, we are able to drive the economy,’ Alfont said.
In the meeting, the government noted that a number of processing facilities had begun operating and formed part of the national downstreaming programme aimed at strengthening domestic industry.
Tri Winarno, Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said the programme focuses not only on physical construction but also on operational readiness and the sustainability of the industry.
The government also noted that non-tax state revenue from the mineral and coal sector reached Rp48.95 trillion from January to April 2026 and rose to around Rp56 trillion by 15 May 2026.
