Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission VI from the Gerindra Party, Andre Rosiade, handed out 4,000 Sembako packages to residents of Agam Regency, West Sumatra. The event began with a symbolic handover at the Kamang Magek District Office’s sports hall, attended by hundreds of residents from various nagari. In addition to distributing the Sembako aid, the programme included a dialogue with the community on various development issues in the area. Andre stated that his presence in Kamang Magek was part of his responsibility as a representative from West Sumatra to go directly to the field and listen to the people’s aspirations.

According to Andre, the aspirations voiced by residents, ranging from telecommunications issues and road infrastructure to flood management that inundates farmers’ fields, will be taken up at the central level. He said that infrastructure development and connectivity are key to driving regional progress, including in Agam. ‘Regarding the telecommunications towers, thank God a tower in Ambun Kapuah has already been inaugurated. On the suggestion of Mr. Novi Irwan, we will also ensure the construction of a tower in Kamang Mudiak so that people’s internet access becomes smoother,’ Andre said. He believes a good telecommunications network is essential not only for communication but also to support education and economic activity of the people. ‘This is important for our children’s education and to support local economic activity,’ he added.

In addition to telecommunications, Andre highlighted road and bridge infrastructure issues that remain needs in several areas of Agam. He pledged to coordinate with the relevant ministries to accelerate action. ‘Regarding road and bridge infrastructure, including the flood problems that inundated farmers’ fields, I will coordinate with the relevant ministries, both the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the River Basin Organization. We want to ensure repairs to roads in Malalak and the construction of damaged bridges can be completed quickly,’ he said.

He stressed that all his work forms part of the instruction of the Gerindra Party chaired by President Prabowo Subianto, which stresses prioritising the people. ‘We in the DPR, especially from the Gerindra faction, have clear instructions from Mr. Prabowo Subianto that cadres must continue to work for the people and help those in need,’ Andre said. He also handed over the Sembako aid, with a total of 4,000 packages to be distributed across various districts in Agam. As a starter, Andre distributed 500 packages in Kamang Magek district.

Andre hopes the aid will help people, especially during Ramadan. ‘I hope this aid will be useful for the community. Do not look at the value but at the intention and our care to help each other,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Novi Irwan, Head of the Gerindra Party’s DPC Agam, expressed appreciation for Andre’s attention to the people in the region. He said Andre is a consistent representative who helps development in West Sumatra, including Agam. ‘Thank you to Bang Andre who, despite his busy schedule, makes time to return to his hometown to meet the people. Although he is a DPR member from West Sumatra’s electoral district, his commitment to helping the Agam people is enormous,’ he said. He also noted that many development aspirations in Agam have been pushed with Andre at national level, including infrastructure development and various assistance programmes. He cited several development programmes that have been advanced, from religious facility construction to infrastructure and efforts to accelerate the building of a bridge in the Malalak area, which is an important access for the people. ‘The Malalak bridge, which requires a large budget, we continue to push with Bang Andre to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. We hope the project will be completed soon so that access for the community improves,’ said Novi, a member of the Agam Regional People’s Representative Council.

In addition, Novi noted that telecommunications network development remains a key need in several areas of Agam. ‘Alhamdulillah the tower in Ambun Kapuah has already been inaugurated, and we also hope the Kamang Mudiak tower will realise soon so that people can access the internet more easily,’ Novi said.

Meanwhile, Kamang Magek Subdistrict Chief Fikri Aulia conveyed the conditions in his area, including flooding that affected rice fields and several facilities in the region. About 50 hectares of paddy fields in Kamang Magek were affected by the flood, with around five hectares sustaining fairly severe damage. ‘We are surrounded by several rivers such as Batang Agam, Batang Tambuo, Batang Alau and the Sirah River. Therefore we hope for support from the central government to normalise the rivers through the River Basin Agency to minimise flood events,’ Fikri said.

Fikri also praised Andre for actively going into affected areas and helping push for faster infrastructure repairs, including road access in Malalak. ‘We see that Mr. Andre is quite active in going directly to the field and helping advocate for repairs to roads that were cut off in Malalak. Alhamdulillah they can now be traversed, albeit not yet optimally,’ he said.

As information, in the event Andre was accompanied by the Agam Gerindra DPC Chair Novi Irwan, Kamang Magek Subdistrict Head Fikri Aulia.
