Commitment failing?
Commitment failing?
It seems that our courage and commitment are being tested. Those government officials who have recently shown such courage are now facing huge obstacles trying to remain consistent. Laksamana Sukardi, who won acclaim for daring to uncover the Texmaco megacredit scandal recently, is suddenly facing serious difficulties. An eminent coordinating minister of economy, finance and industry such as Kwik Kian Gie, appears hesitant -- not to say afraid -- to reveal the whole scope of banking crimes committed by just a handful of bankers and business people in this country, involving some Rp 600 trillion.
Kwik, it seems, needs to be persuaded that banking crimes constitute the lowest point of the moral bankruptcy that exists in our bureaucracy and business world. Some of our bureaucrats, including a number of members of the House of Representatives, as mentioned by Kwik, are conspiring with certain business people to make our country bankrupt. Therefore, if Kwik possesses any data about legislators who are involved in such affairs, he should submit it to our law-enforcers -- or to the public if necessary to remind our legislators not to trifle with principles.
