Commission XIII Pushes for Pancasila Month as Opportunity to Review Implementation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is encouraging Pancasila Month, which coincides with June and Pancasila’s birth date, to be utilised as a momentum for reviewing the implementation of Pancasila’s values in state affairs.
Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI, Sugiat Santoso, expressed this during a hearing with the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), Yudian Wahyudi, at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.
“I hope that after this meeting, if there is no budget from BPIP, well, because it’s our shared spirit, we can even contribute together, but hopefully there is funding; in June, we will hold Pancasila Month, and we will discuss all aspects of how we govern the nation,” he said.
According to him, a study is needed on the extent to which Pancasila has been applied, especially post-reformasi. This study is deemed important for determining Indonesia’s future steps, particularly towards the Golden Indonesia 2045 goal.
“We will discuss whether our economy is Pancasila-based? Whether our politics is Pancasila-based? Whether our education is Pancasila-based? Even, whether our social culture is Pancasila-based?” he stated.
“I think, together in June, we will formulate it with concrete data, using a qualitative or quantitative approach to assess the nation’s situation,” Sugiat added.
He proposed that the study results be presented to President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, this step is already an obligation for Commission XIII DPR RI, which partners with BPIP.
“We will jointly present it to Mr President. ‘Sir, this is the real condition of how we build the nation’,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI, Willy Aditya, proposed holding a national deliberation involving participation from civil society, political party representatives, business communities, and government representations.
“So that there is a truly heartfelt dialogue, and it becomes a momentum, ‘Hey, this is Pancasila, not just for the 21st century, but looking ahead, what about the methodological framework and action framework?’” said Willy.
In response, BPIP Head Yudian Wahyudi expressed his agency’s willingness to implement the legislators’ proposals.
“This will certainly be used as a momentum as hoped earlier, especially the two last points proposed by Mr Sugiat. I have already discussed that we will do it. So, BPIP should budget for this, along with the national deliberation,” he said.
