Commission XI of Parliament Urges Public to Show Compassion for Disaster-Affected Residents
Mukhamad Misbakhun, Chairman of Commission XI of the House of Representatives, has called on the public to show compassion for disaster-affected residents during Ramadan and the subsequent Eid al-Fitr period. Misbakhun expressed particular concern for communities still housed in evacuation centres throughout the holy month.
“We must care for our brethren in disaster-affected areas. This is a sacred month of Ramadan and their emotions will certainly change. Especially during Eid celebrations, they will still be in temporary shelters or evacuation centres,” Misbakhun stated during an event titled “Inspiration of the Holy Month” organised by detikcom on Thursday (26 February 2026).
He called for uninterrupted supplies to disaster-affected communities and expressed hope that emergency relief funds would be distributed effectively.
“We must respect and care for them, ensuring their supplies and basic needs are not disrupted. The rehabilitation of affected areas is still ongoing. We want to ensure the state’s presence through emergency relief funding so that they feel supported,” said Misbakhun.
The Golkar politician also emphasised that the state must consider personnel stationed in disaster zones. He called for the needs of military and police officers involved in rehabilitating affected areas to be properly supported.
“This includes disaster mitigation personnel still on duty—the military and police officers serving in those areas. They too are carrying out state duties, rehabilitating disaster zones, working on infrastructure projects. We must care for them—ensure they receive proper shifts, their needs are met, so they are not left struggling to maintain family contact and secure their livelihoods whilst serving in disaster areas. This is what we must ensure,” he added.
