Commission X urges UI to thoroughly investigate Talent Scouting selection issues
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, has urged Universitas Indonesia (UI) to thoroughly investigate the issue of changes to the results of the new student admission selection process via the Talent Scouting pathway.
“Do not let public trust in renowned higher education institutions, such as UI, be damaged just because of this issue. The rights of prospective students must be protected,” Lalu said, quoted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“This is very disappointing and detrimental to prospective students. Many of them had already received congratulations for being declared passed, but then their status changed. This cannot be considered a minor error,” Lalu stated.
He then emphasised that the reason of a technical error on the website cannot be justified. According to him, the previous announcement process ran smoothly and was accessible to the public, so this sudden change raises major questions about the professionalism of the selection process.
“If the system was indeed problematic from the start, the announcement should not have been made. This shows there is a serious problem in the governance of the student admission system,” he said.
Furthermore, Lalu requested that prospective students who were previously declared accepted have their status restored as qualified participants. He also stressed that this incident poses a significant risk to UI’s credibility in organising new student admissions.
“As a flagship university, UI should uphold professionalism, transparency, and accountability. This incident must serve as a serious evaluation to prevent recurrence in the future,” he said.
It is known that UI’s Talent Scouting is a pathway for new student admissions at Universitas Indonesia that provides opportunities for prospective students to study in international classes.
