Commission X committed to advocating for non-civil servant teachers to continue serving
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives is committed to advocating for non-civil servant (non-ASN) teachers to continue serving following the policy on the time limit for honorary teacher assignments at the end of this year.
“Believe me, we will continue to fight for teachers to keep serving, especially in areas that truly need those teachers,” said Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives Hetifah Sjaifudian in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Hetifah, the commission handling education affairs realises that teachers currently holding non-ASN status feel anxious and worried. “I also saw this in the regions when we conducted recesses,” she said.
“The important thing is to clarify the status of teachers who currently have unclear positions. For example, from non-ASN or honorary teachers to ASN, at least PPPK or even PNS,” she stated.
She added that the revision of the National Education System Law, currently being drafted by the House of Representatives, will clarify teacher status. The recruitment process to salary determination will be reorganised in the said revision.
“If necessary, in the recruitment process, we will carry out a complete reorganisation, followed by a restructuring of authority so there might be a single salary in all regions and certainty of status. If possible, all teachers become PNS,” she said.
Previously, the government stipulated that the assignment of non-ASN teachers would be carried out until 31 December 2026.
This is stipulated in the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Number 7 of 2026 on the Assignment of Non-ASN Teachers in Education Units Organised by Local Governments.
Regarding SE Number 7 of 2026, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education emphasised that there will be no mass termination of employment (PHK) for 237,196 non-ASN teachers who have been recorded in the Basic Education Data System (Dapodik).
Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Dirjen GTK) of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Nunuk Suryani said the government is currently formulating the best scheme even though the status of non-ASN teachers is stated to end this year.
In a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday (11/5), Nunuk said that they, together with relevant ministries/institutions, are mapping national teacher needs formations for redistribution, including involving non-ASN teachers.
“Regarding the future, now the Minister of PANRB has also stated that there will be a selection. The number is still being formulated, still being discussed, and what the selection process will be like, we are currently formulating,” she said.
