Commission VIII: Bill on Hajj Finance Management to Align with Current Dynamics
Jakarta — Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives Abidin Fikri stated that the Bill amending Law No. 34 of 2014 concerning Hajj Finance Management would align with current dynamics in hajj implementation.
In revising the law, he also sought to ensure that hajj finance management became more transparent, fair, and proportional in the distribution of benefits to hajj pilgrims.
“Commission VIII of the House of Representatives is committed to accelerating the discussion so that this Bill is promptly enacted into law, in order to support better and fairer hajj implementation for all Indonesian Muslims,” said Abidin in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, more accountable management of hajj funds would ensure the principle of justice was fulfilled, thereby preventing allegations and suspicions of unfairness that pilgrims have long complained about.
He stated that the House of Representatives had formally approved the Bill as a House Initiative Proposal. This approval, he said, resulted from a thorough harmonisation process at the House’s Legislative Body (Baleg), involving all parliamentary factions and marking a strong commitment to strengthening hajj fund governance.
As such, according to him, the Hajj Finance Management Bill had become part of the national legislative priorities. Commission VIII of the House of Representatives also urged the Government to promptly prepare the Bill’s Problem Statement List (DIM) so that it could be discussed jointly with the House.
Earlier, the 16th Plenary Session of the Fourth Session of the 2025-2026 legislative term approved the Bill amending Law No. 34 of 2014 concerning Hajj Finance Management as a House of Representatives initiative proposal.
“We ask the honourable assembly whether the initiative proposal Bill from Commission VIII of the House concerning the amendment to Law No. 34 of 2014 concerning Hajj Finance Management can be approved as a House of Representatives proposal Bill?” said House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (12 March), answered with approval by the representatives present.
This approval was taken during the plenary session after each parliamentary political party faction presented their written opinions on the Bill, which was previously a Commission VIII House initiative proposal.
