Commission VIII Accelerates Discussion on Hajj Financial Management Bill
Vice Chair of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives and Head of the Special Committee on the Hajj Financial Management Bill, Abidin Fikri, is targeting the Bill to amend Law No. 34 of 2014 on Hajj Financial Management for swift enactment into law. Abidin called on the government to urgently prepare an inventory of issues (DIM).
“Commission VIII of the House of Representatives is committed to accelerating discussions so that this bill is promptly enacted into law, to support the conduct of hajj that is better and fairer for all Indonesian Muslims,” Abidin told reporters on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Abidin Fikri welcomed the approval of the Hajj Financial Management Bill as a House legislative initiative. He stated that this approval resulted from a harmonisation process in the House’s Legislative Body (Baleg).
Abidin explained that the revision of the Hajj Financial Management Law aims to strengthen transparency, equity, and proportionality in the distribution of benefits to hajj pilgrims. According to him, more accountable management of hajj funds is important to ensure the principle of fairness for pilgrims.
The PDI-P politician stated that the Hajj Financial Management Bill is part of national legislative priorities. Moreover, it has now been approved as a House legislative initiative.
Previously, the revision of the Law on amendments to Law No. 34 of 2014 on Hajj Financial Management was agreed upon as a House legislative initiative bill. The decision was made during a House plenary session.
The plenary session was held at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (12 March 2026). A total of 294 members attended the session. House Chair Puan Maharani led the session.
Puan then asked for the approval of members present regarding the bill as a House legislative initiative. The legislators approved it.
“We ask the honourable House assembly whether the bill, a House Commission VIII legislative initiative to amend Law No. 34 of 2014 on Hajj Financial Management, may be approved as a House legislative initiative bill?” Puan asked.
“Approved,” the members answered.
