Commission VII to forward duck farmers' complaints to the government
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Chusnunia, has assured that her side will forward the aspirations of duck farmers to the government and related commissions regarding the sharp decline in duck egg prices at a time when production costs are increasingly high.
Chusnunia, in her statement in Jakarta on Sunday, responded to the aspirations of farmers united in the National Duck Farmers Association (PPBN), who voiced protests to the government over the current plunge in duck egg prices.
“We will forward this to Commission IV of the DPR, which handles the sector, and specifically to the PKB Faction to garner attention,” she said.
Her side will forward the farmers’ aspirations so that they can be promptly addressed by the government and related commissions.
The protest was conveyed by the farmers at an event titled “National Dialogue of People’s Farmers: Soaring Feed Prices, Egg Prices Causing Distress” at Resto Bebek Pinggir Embung, Sleman, Yogyakarta, attended by all PPBN coordinators across Java.
According to PPBN General Chairman Mohammad Rosul, the protest action was launched due to the worsening prices and absorption of duck eggs.
“Duck egg prices have plummeted lately; not only are farmers not profiting, but the prices are already below the Cost of Goods Sold (HPP),” he explained.
Rosul urged the government to intervene and control the duck egg market prices.
In addition to lodging the protest, PPBN will send a letter of audience to Commission IV of the DPR RI to convey the aspirations of the people’s farmers.
“We will send a letter of audience to Commission IV of the DPR RI to explain the condition of the people’s farmers, who are increasingly disadvantaged day by day,” said Rosul.
“We want to ensure that the government’s support for people’s farmers becomes clearer. Food security and self-sufficiency should not be mere rhetoric,” he added.
Meanwhile, Haryono, another participant in the people’s farmers’ dialogue, stated that one factor contributing to the plunge in duck egg prices is the rise in feed costs.
He noted that the price of livestock feed, particularly for laying ducks, has increased three times in the last two months, while duck egg prices are far from the HPP.
“The HPP for laying ducks is at least Rp 1,732. Today, the egg price is Rp 1,400 - Rp 1,500. This must also receive attention and control from the government,” Haryono requested.
In addition to the consolidation action, PPBN also held an action distributing 30,000 duck eggs for free at the Perempatan Ringroad Utara UPN intersection, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
The egg distribution action serves as a form of PPBN’s protest against the increasingly deteriorating prices and market opportunities for duck eggs.
