Commission VII meets with film associations to seek solutions for improving the film industry

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission VII of the House of Representatives held a meeting with film associations and companies to inventory problems and seek solutions for improving the national film ecosystem, which is currently facing challenges.

Deputy Chair of Commission VII, Chusnunia Chalim, stated that in the current industry reality, there is a tendency towards disparities in access between large production houses and independent players, both in obtaining screens, screening durations, and strategic screening times or slots.

“This condition has the potential to hinder the growth of creativity and reduce content diversity in the national film industry,” said Chusnunia at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to her, the limited number of screens, curation patterns that are not fully transparent, and the dominance of commercial considerations are factors suspected of further narrowing the space for national films in general to optimally reach audiences.

Several film sector players invited to the meeting included MD Entertainment, Visinema Pictures, Magma Entertainment, Rapi Film, Falcon Pictures, and Adhya Pictures.

She stated that Commission VII views the need to inventory various problems and challenges within the film sector, and this is a fundamental step to obtain a complete picture of the obstacles, both structural and other technical in nature, faced by all parts of the film industry players.

The results of this inventory, she said, are expected to serve as the basis for formulating more adaptive, fair policies that can create a healthier, more transparent, and more competitive distribution and exhibition ecosystem.

“The recommendations produced should not only be normative but also implementative and real, not based on issues that may not yet all be field-tested,” she said.
