Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) to anticipate a wave of layoffs amid recent global conflicts.

Commission IX member Edy Wuryanto, during a working meeting with Manpower Minister Yassierli, stated that the war in the Middle East cannot be denied to affect various sectors in many countries, including Indonesia.

“Therefore, I think the Manpower Minister’s mitigation regarding layoffs must be increased,” he said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Commission IX member Nurhadi asked Kemenaker to strengthen mitigation steps against the potential wave of layoffs. He mentioned the need for a comprehensive early detection system.

“I hope there is early detection carried out by the Minister and his staff so that this can be anticipated early,” he said.

Through early detection, sectors that are potentially affected can be identified so that preventive measures can be taken from the beginning. That way, layoffs can be prevented as much as possible and their impact does not spread widely to society.

“This 2026, hopefully it will decrease,” said Nurhadi hopefully.

The wave of layoffs was also highlighted by Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Charles Honoris. He asked Kemenaker to formulate related programmes, especially for people with disabilities.

“The projection for this year the number will be higher because the economic condition is worse compared to last year so the pressure on workers will definitely be heavier, including on workers from the difabel community,” he said.
