JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A meeting of the House of Representatives’ Commission IX was marked by a debate between the commission and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf. Initially, the Social Affairs Minister explained that 2.1 million out of 11 million BPJS Health PBI participants who had been deactivated have been reactivated. “So, the total number that remain active as BPJS Health participants through various segments from the 11 million is 2,155,665 beneficiaries,” said Saifullah during the Commission IX DPR RI meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026). After the Social Affairs Minister’s presentation, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX Charles Honoris questioned why only around 2 million PBI BPJS Health participants have been reactivated. “From the presentation we just saw, initially only about 100 thousand were reactivated, those being catastrophic patients and others, now it’s 2 million something. That means there are still about 9 million people who cannot access services to this day,” Charles said during the meeting. Charles also asked the government to align perceptions. Because, according to him, the content of the previous meeting’s conclusion stipulated that the government should continue the PBI BPJS for the 11 million participants who had been deactivated. “Yes, because my interpretation according to the agreement of the DPR and government meeting is that the 11 million should be continued,” he added.
