Commission IX Emphasises Importance of Nutrition Fulfilment and Family Strengthening
Surabaya — Indah Kurniawati, a member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, has emphasised the importance of nutrition fulfilment and family strengthening during the socialisation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) at Pendopo Abah Yarno, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java.
“Attention to nutrition is extremely important. The nutritious meal programme is expected not only to target schoolchildren, but in the future to reach other community groups, including the elderly. However, the quality of service and food must be properly maintained,” Kurniawati stated in a press release received in Surabaya on Friday.
Kurniawati explained that she currently serves on Commission IX of the House of Representatives, which partners with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Population and Family Development, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
According to her, the role of Commission IX is not merely to conduct socialisation, but also to ensure that government programmes are properly targeted and deliver tangible benefits to the community.
She urged the public to become more discerning in choosing food and beverages by paying attention to packaging labels, distribution permits, and expiry dates in order to safeguard family health whilst supporting the success of the MBG programme.
“The MBG programme being implemented by BGN is a long-term investment for the nation,” she said.
She hopes that the presence of nutrition fulfilment service kitchens (SPPG) in a given area can involve local communities as food suppliers, so that alongside improving child nutrition quality, the programme can also stimulate the local economy.
Kurniawati opened dialogue with the community to voice constructive input and aspirations, and emphasised that programme oversight requires collective participation.
The socialisation activity is expected to serve as an opportunity to strengthen bonds whilst reinforcing the commitment to building a healthy, superior, and quality Indonesian generation towards Indonesia’s Golden 2045.
