JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) will hold a public hearing (RDPU) regarding allegations of sexual harassment by a Quran memorisation competition judge with the initials SAM on 2 April 2026.

The Chairman of Commission III DPR, Habiburokhman, stated that the alleged sexual harassment incident occurred around 2017 to 2025.

He hopes that the forum will encourage the acceleration of the legal process while bringing justice to the victims.

Habiburokhman also clarified public speculation regarding the identity of the alleged perpetrator. He emphasised that SAM is neither Ustaz Solmed nor Ustaz Syam, who were mentioned on social media.

Previously, it was reported that a Quran memorisation judge with the initials SAM was reported for a case of alleged sexual harassment against students.

Benny Jehadu, the legal representative of the victims, visited the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) to monitor the progress of the case, which has been reported since December last year.

According to Benny’s statement, the respondent is a religious figure who frequently appears on Islamic religious programmes on private television. Benny said the victims are experiencing deep trauma.

“Because this case involves sexual harassment not against girls, but boys, same-sex,” said Benny.

The sexual harassment incidents are alleged to have occurred during the period 2017-2025. The events took place at several locations at different times.

“So at that time, the incident was already old, so the perpetrator did apologise and promised not to repeat the act, but in 2025 it happened again,” added Wati Trisnawati.
