Jakarta – A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives from the PKB faction, Hasbiallah Ilyas, has emphasised that the legal process against crew member (ABK) Fandi Ramadhan, who is facing capital punishment in a methamphetamine smuggling case involving two tonnes of narcotics, must be transparent and professional.

He warned against any manipulation or engineering of the law by authorities in handling the case.

This statement was made by Hasbiallah Ilyas following the family of crew member Fandi’s attendance at a General Hearing Session (RDPU) with Commission III on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

Hasbiallah requested that law enforcement officials handling this case be summoned to the House of Representatives to provide an open explanation to the public.

“We request that there be no manipulation by law enforcement authorities in this case. The PKB faction requests that the officials handling this matter be summoned to Commission III of the House of Representatives for an open explanation. We need to know comprehensively what actually happened,” Hasbiallah said in a statement on Friday, 27 February 2026.

He stated that this summons is part of the House’s supervisory function to ensure that the principles of due process of law are fulfilled.

Especially since crew member Fandi faces capital punishment, the state is obliged to guarantee that the investigation and trial processes are objective and free from attempted criminalisation.

“We want to ensure that there are no procedural violations and no engineering. If indeed guilty, of course it must be processed according to the law. But if there are suspicious elements, the state is obliged to be present to clarify,” he said.

Furthermore, this PKB politician expressed his support for combating narcotics uncompromisingly. However, he cautioned that every step of law enforcement must remain within the framework of applicable law and be consistent with the spirit of the new Criminal Code.

“Transparency is very important because this case involves legal and humanitarian consequences that are very serious. Law enforcement must not undermine the sense of justice itself,” Hasbiallah concluded.
