Commission III of Parliament States Caustic Liquid Attack on KontraS Activist Constitutes Resistance to Prabowo Administration

Jakarta – Commission III of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia held a special session on Monday, 16 March 2026, concerning the caustic liquid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS. During the meeting, Commission III concluded that the incident constituted an act of resistance or opposition to the administration of President Prabowo Subianto.

“Commission III of the House of Representatives emphasises that the caustic liquid attack against Andrie Yunus is a form of resistance or opposition to the commitment of President Prabowo’s Administration to maximise the protection, advancement, enforcement, and fulfilment of Human Rights as outlined in the Eight-Point Programme (Asta Cita),” said Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III, at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Commission III affirmed that Andrie Yunus is entitled to protection under both national and international law, which has been ratified by the Republic of Indonesia, both as a citizen and as a human rights defender.

Habiburokhman added that his commission requested the National Police (Polri) to conduct a thorough investigation into the caustic liquid attack against Andrie Yunus swiftly, transparently and professionally, and to promptly identify and apprehend all those responsible.

“Both those who planned, ordered, carried out or assisted in the attack in accordance with applicable legislation,” he stated.

Commission III also requested the Government, specifically the Ministry of Health, to guarantee full funding for the best medical treatment and health recovery of Andrie Yunus.

Earlier, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto had ordered a thorough investigation into the caustic liquid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted professionally, transparently and using scientific investigative methods.

“Regarding developments in the activist attack, I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a thorough investigation professionally and transparently,” Sigit said whilst inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.

He explained that the investigative process would employ scientific crime investigation methods to ensure each stage of the case handling is conducted objectively and based on evidence.

Additionally, he noted that police are currently gathering various information related to the incident for further detailed examination on a step-by-step basis.
