Commission III of House of Representatives Requests Health Ministry to Fully Fund Andrie Yunus's Medical Treatment
The House of Representatives’ Commission III has requested the Health Ministry to take steps regarding the caustic acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The commission is demanding that the Health Ministry fully finance Yunus’s medical treatment.
This statement was delivered by Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman during a press conference following a special meeting at Commission III, DPR Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, 16 March 2026. Habiburokhman called on the Health Ministry to bear all of Yunus’s treatment costs.
“Commission III of the House of Representatives requests the government, specifically the Health Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia, to guarantee all medical treatment costs and health recovery for Andrie Yunus,” Habiburokhman said.
He also called on the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to work together to protect Andrie Yunus, his family, and KontraS. In this way, he said, further attacks would be prevented.
“Commission III requests Polri and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency to coordinate and provide special protection for Andrie Yunus, his family, his organisation, and other parties to ensure security and prevent further violence against them,” he stated.
He also assured that Commission III would continue to oversee the case. Commission III emphasised that justice must be upheld.
“Commission III will continue to monitor the handling of the caustic acid attack case against Andrie Yunus to ensure law enforcement, truth, and justice by conducting regular working meetings and public hearings with relevant law enforcement officials,” Habiburokhman said.
The Dangers of AI Images of the Perpetrator
Furthermore, Habiburokhman also highlighted the circulation of photographs of the caustic acid perpetrator that turned out to be artificial intelligence-generated images. He emphasised that these AI photos were dangerous.
“Yes, I think this AI could be dangerous if we let it spread and even share it ourselves, because it can confuse the public. What I am concerned about is that it could even cause public misunderstanding—if someone looks similar, they could be beaten up by a mob,” Habiburokhman said.
He called on Polri not to remain silent. He urged Polri to counter the inaccurate photographs.
“So I ask Polri, especially the Public Relations division, to actively counter and explain to the public every development of incorrect information,” he said.
“I myself was still thinking those were real images until last night. When I checked and made calls, my colleagues at Polri said, ‘Oh, those are AI.’ So what about the general public? I urge Polri to be very responsive in handling this situation,” he added.
As known, Andrie Yunus was attacked with caustic acid allegedly by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening, 12 March. The incident occurred while Andrie was returning home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
