Commission III of House of Representatives pledges to regularly monitor acid attack case against Andrie Yunus
Jakarta – The House of Representatives’ Commission III has assured that it will regularly monitor law enforcement proceedings in the case of an acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS.
Commission III Chair Habiburokhman stated that this oversight is being conducted to ensure that law, truth, and justice are upheld for Andrie Yunus. He expressed concern and strongly condemned the acid attack.
“To ensure the enforcement of law, truth, and justice for Andrie Yunus by conducting regular working meetings and public hearings with relevant law enforcement authorities,” said Habiburokhman when reading out the conclusions of Commission III’s special meeting regarding the Andrie Yunus case at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, Commission III has also requested the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus swiftly, transparently, and professionally.
Polri, he stated, must promptly identify and arrest all perpetrators—those who planned, ordered, executed, or assisted in the attack—in accordance with the law.
Previously, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus was attacked by unknown assailants who sprayed acid on him, resulting in injuries to his hands and feet as well as vision impairment.
The incident occurred shortly after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) discussing militarism and constitutional review of the TNI Law.
Based on initial information gathered, the victim was riding a motorcycle on Salemba I Street in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March at approximately 23:37 Western Indonesian Time when the attack occurred.
