Commission III: Attorney General's Office should check other detainees handled by Karo District Prosecutor's Office

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission III Ahmad Sahroni stated that the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) needs to check other detainees handled by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari), North Sumatra, as a result of the legal case involving videographer Amsal Sitepu, which has sparked controversy. He believes that internal parties from Kejagung will delve deeper when examining the ranks of Kejari Karo. This is because, he said, DPR Commission III RI had previously mentioned other detainees besides Amsal Sitepu during a meeting with Kejari Karo some time ago. “As Mr Hinca Panjaitan (a member of DPR Commission III RI) mentioned, there are also many detainees whose suspicions may be of a similar nature. The Attorney General’s Office should follow up,” Sahroni said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday. For this reason, he appreciates Kejagung’s response to the Amsal controversy by examining Kejari Karo. According to him, the performance of the prosecutorial ranks must be supervised broadly. “It should not happen again in the future regarding what was done by Kejari Karo,” he said. Previously, Kejagung examined the ranks of Kejari Karo, North Sumatra, by clarifying and examining them, as a result of the handling of Amsal’s case. Head of Public Prosecution Information at Kejagung Anang Supriatna said that the prosecutors, starting from Karo District Prosecutor Head Danke Rajagukguk, Head of Special Crimes Section, to public prosecutors, have been secured for that examination. “On Saturday night (4/4), they were indeed secured by the Attorney General’s Office intelligence team,” Anang said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (5/4). According to him, the Kejagung team will check the case handling carried out by the Karo prosecutors, including matters of professionalism in handling cases.
