Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) is reportedly preparing to establish a Working Committee (Panja) for the Election Bill before the end of the current session or ahead of the parliamentary recess scheduled for next week.

This was stated by the Vice Chairman of Commission II from the PDI-P party, Aria Bima. According to Bima, the commission has received instructions to immediately commence discussions on the Bill.

“Commission II has received information from the leadership that we will decide on the Panja at the end of this legislative session,” said Bima at the parliamentary complex on Tuesday (22/9).

He noted that the commission has received comprehensive input regarding several substances within the Bill. Based on records from the Expertise Agency, there are approximately 12 to 14 formulations within the Election Bill.

“The Expertise Agency has identified more than 12 to 14 issues that are beginning to be formulated in the draft of the academic paper,” he said.

According to Bima, these formulations will be re-examined as the Bill concerns not only national elections but also regional elections (Pilkada).

“Before the recess, God willing, the formation of the Panja to draft the amendments to the Election Bill will be ensured,” he added.

To date, several points within the Election Bill continue to draw significant attention, particularly those concerning Constitutional Court rulings. These include the parliamentary threshold, the presidential threshold, and the separation of local and national elections.
